which SYJ class should I take?

BASICS: If this is the first time you have ever set foot on a yoga mat, this is your best introduction to a safe, accessible and empowering one hour class. This class has minimal weight bearing (on your hands) and a slower pace which will help you gain clear understanding of healthy alignment in the foundational poses and learn breath awareness and simple meditation techniques. Teachers assist class with helpful and therapeutic adjustments.

SYJ 1: If it's been awhile since you have been on your mat, or you are brand new to the special way we approach things at SYJ, then this is the perfect experience for you physically and mentally. Alignment Instructions are taught within a moving or "flowing" format and an introduction to full sun salutations (A and B); prep for inversions, twists, hip openers and prep for some more open level back bends will complete this yoga inspiring education.

SYJ 2: If you are looking to up the ante somewhat in terms of pace and the poses you are developing, but are still wanting to "learn" through our focussed instruction then this class will offer the variety and depth of experience you are craving. Our brilliant teachers will empower you more by moving you through a fun and vigorous sequence of standing poses, including twists, balancing and nomadic poses. Expect poses like hand stand, arm balances, and some deeper education into backbends and hip openers and forward bending. These classes will challenge and empower students who are interested in cultivating a more fluent open level asana experience.

SYJ 2/3: If you are ready to grow and expand your asana repetoire, these classes are unique in their ability to flow consistently while "teaching" you how to execute the deeper poses you always wanted to learn but were afraid to try... There is nothing to fear, as these classes are meticulously instructed, however, a fluent knowledge of sun salutations (A and B) as well as feeling comfortable kicking (or jumping) up into handstand (with or without a wall), pressing up into Urdva Dhanurasana (full backbend), and open to learning some more advanced arm balances, backbends, binding, or hip openers make you the perfect participant for this intermediate fun and perfectly challenging yoga class.

SYJ 3: (aka "spiritual gangstas") If you have been practicing at SYJ consistently (taking SYJ level 2/3 classes for at least 6 months), completed our 200 or 500 hour teacher training, and have a clear and solid understanding of our SYJ alignment instruction, (and a fearless but responsible attitude toward asana) you are ready to step into this one of a kind advanced yoga experience. Nowhere else in Fairfield County (or the greater Tri-State area) will you be offered an education of yoga quite like this or where you be taught and exposed to poses like this. Be prepared to guide yourself through sun salutations (with SYJ alignment), practice all inversions without a wall, partner up with others sometimes to execute deeper poses, and receive and understand the teacher's physical adjustments. If you do not fit the criteria described above, then for your safety PRIOR permission from the instructor is required. If you have never practiced at SYJ (even if you are a teacher currently) we do not recommend this class for your first SYJ experience (try SYJ 2/3 first).
