Be yourself.

Be mindful of your yoga community.

If you are late or need to leave early please be sensitive to those practicing around you by moving quietly. Thus continuing your practice off the mat...into your life.

If late, enter the studio quietly and prepared for practice. Unravel your mat outside the door, take a few centering breaths before you enter. If the class is in session wait quietly by the side of the room until it's appropriate to find a space. In spite of certain thoughts you might have, know you are always welcome. We understand that we can't always be on time, but consistently arriving late for class shows a lack of respect for the community, yourself and your practice. And it never feels good to rush into a space where you are working so honestly to cultivate peace and awareness. (We recommend that you arrive ten minutes before your scheduled class).

Come clean. "Purity of body is essential to well being" (BKS Iyengar). Refrain from using perfume. In a yoga class where the focus is on our breath, keeping the air clear is essential. Eat light simple food. It is always nicer to practice on an empty stomach. During savasana (resting pose), we join together in a silent, uninterrupted self-observation.

We can't turn off the outside world completely (noises of the day happening around you, people even snoring). However, what may seem like distractions are really all part of our meditation. Accepting what's happening around you is your practice. We can choose to minimize restlessness and embrace our well-deserved rest by creating as little movement as possible and...

If you know you must leave early, leave before savasana instead of in the middle and have your belongings ready. Unless it is imperative for you to bring the cell phone into class, please turn it off. (As one of our fellow yogi's so poignantly said, "If we can't be out of touch with the world for two hours than that in itself is valuable information to meditate upon.")

Answers to some popular yoga questions:

What should I wear?
Loose, comfortable clothing.

What should I drink?
Water before class is better than water during class. Hydrate your body before practice.

Is your studio heated?
The room is about 80°. We like to build heat internally through strong, focused practice.

Will this be a workout?
Yes. Vinyasa yoga is a fluid, dynamic and strength building practice where the whole body is engaged throughout the entire class.

Do I need to be flexible?
No. We all start from where we are. However, consistent practice will improve your flexibility.

How often should I practice?
We encourage consistency with asana (poses) practice (better to do a little bit more often, than one HUGE practice once a week). Asana is only part of your yoga... there are opportunities to practice in your life every moment.
